AWCI: Asian Water Cycle Initiative

The 7th Meeting of the GEOSS/AWCI International Coordination Group (ICG)

Date:   5th - 6th October 2010
Venue:  University of Tokyo Komaba Campus, Tokyo, Japan

Meeting Objective

The event is scheduled in advance of the GEO Ministerial Summit in Beijing, November 2010 and one of the important expected outcomes from the ICG meeting will be an input to the Summit elaborated from the Message that resulted form the 6th Meeting in Bali, March 2010 and that stated:

gThe Summit is requested to recognize the direction and achievements by GEOSS/AWCI as one of the most effective regional approaches for climate change adaptations and to endorse its activities in each country and the Asia-Pacific region in improving the efficiency of operational water resources management.h

In addition, implementation status of the working group activities will be reviewed including (1) Flood, (2) Drought, (3) Water Quality, and (4) Climate Change groups. Focus will be placed on the three target topics identified for collaboration among Water Cycle, Climate, and Disasters socio-benefit areas: (i) Drought, (ii) Typhoon and Cyclone, and (iii) Snow, GLOF, and Glaciers. Also updated status of the Demonstration Projects and demonstration basin data submissions will be reported and reviewed.

Dear Colleague,

It is my great pleasure to invite you to the 7th meeting of the GEOSS Asian Water Cycle Initiative (AWCI) International Coordination Group (ICG) that will be held in Tokyo, Japan on 5th – 6th October 2010.

The event is scheduled in advance of the GEO Ministerial Summit in Beijing, November 2010 and one of the important expected outcomes from the ICG meeting will be an input to the Summit elaborated from the Message that resulted form the 6th Meeting in Bali, March 2010 and that stated:

Also, please take a notice that you are responsible for securing your own visa, if necessary. Please contact the nearest embassy/consulate of Japan in your country and inquiry about the requested documents. We will be happy to assist you in this process, if required.
